State Tax Extensions

Every state in the US allows you to file a tax extension , most of the time the state tax extension is due the same day as a Federal tax extension which is April 15th unless that day falls on a weekend. Some states need a separate forms so check with your states tax laws or simply use an online tax program to do the work for you and let you know the guidelines.

Business Tax Extensions

Business tax extensions can be filed too and online. This 2005 year businesses can file a tax extension with form 7004 for an additional 6 months to file your taxes. This must be done before the return due date. These due dates may be different because some businesses such as corporations may have a different due date. Check with the IRS or the use of business tax software will determine when that due date is and have all the forms you would need to file an extension.

Filling a Tax Extension Online

Filing for a tax extension online is pretty easy, especially if you use a tax software program. The programs ask you questions and prepare the form with your information so that you can e-file the tax extensions form directly to the IRS and receive confirmation that it was accepted.
